Sylvester Stallone’s Biggest Marriage Regret: “I Was Such an Idiot”.
Sylvester Stallone is looking back on nearly three decades of marriage to Jennifer Flavin, and the Hollywood icon admits there is one thing he wishes he could change.
During a recent appearance at CBS Sunday Morning at 92NY, the 80-year-old Rocky star was asked what he would do differently if he had the chance to relive part of his life. His answer centered on the woman he has spent almost 30 years with.
“I wish I had married my wife about eight years earlier,” Stallone confessed. “I was such an idiot, procrastinating.”
The actor, who met Flavin by chance in a restaurant in 1988 before marrying her in 1997, admitted he was slow to understand what truly matters in a relationship.
“I’m still actually learning about relationships,” he said, before adding with a smile, “I regret that. And I’m sorry, baby.”

Childhood Struggles Left a Lasting Impact
Stallone also reflected on how his difficult upbringing may have influenced his personal relationships throughout life. The actor has previously spoken about feeling a lack of love and support from his parents during childhood.
According to Stallone, experiences from early life can leave permanent emotional marks.
“There is that,” he said when asked whether his childhood shaped the way he approached relationships.
Using a powerful analogy, the Rambo star explained:
“A child is like a pile of wet clay. If you drop it two times, you put permanent dents. They don’t come out.”
He added that many people carry those emotional wounds into adulthood and spend years trying to overcome them.

“Jennifer Taught Me How to Love”
Despite the challenges, Stallone credited Flavin for helping him discover a deeper understanding of love and commitment.
“It’s a habit, learning to love. A really wonderful habit,” he said.
“With my wife Jennifer, it’s finally come to fruition. It took about 60 years, but we got there.”
The couple share three daughters, Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet Stallone, and have often appeared together publicly as one of Hollywood’s most enduring families.

Overcoming a Difficult Chapter
Their marriage faced a major test in 2022 when Flavin filed for divorce. However, the couple reconciled just weeks later and ultimately decided to remain together.
Following their reunion, Stallone openly admitted that he had spent too many years putting work ahead of family.
“I put the work ahead of them, and that is a tragic mistake which won’t happen again,” he previously said.
The actor appears determined to make family his priority moving forward.
Earlier this year, Stallone celebrated the couple’s 29th wedding anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram tribute, writing: “Happy anniversary, you give my life meaning!”
Flavin responded with an equally emotional message:
“I love you, you are my everything!”
After decades of success on the big screen, Stallone says one of life’s most important lessons arrived away from Hollywood: learning to love, appreciate, and cherish the person who stood by his side through it all.
