Robert Lewandowski pushed for a move to Barcelona in 2022. This didn’t exactly create a good atmosphere for the Bayern management. The striker icon was mentally done with the club he had hammered in an amazing 344 goals for. Now it was Barcelona who would exploit the Polish international’s extreme goal-scoring prowess. According to a new biography of Lewandowski, the goal-scoring prowess was so great even at Camp Nou that the Barcelona management asked the striker to stop scoring.
Sounds completely crazy, but there was a financial motivation behind it all. This is revealed in a new biography of Robert Lewandowski by author Sebastian Staszewski.

After the transfer from Bayern Munich, Robert Lewandowski scored 33 goals, with 23 in La Liga. This could have been higher. Because according to the biography, the Barca management asked Lewandowski, with two games left in the season, not to score any more goals.
If the striker reached 25 goals in La Liga, it would trigger a clause that would have required Barcelona to pay Bayern Munich an additional 2.5 million euros in bonuses. At that time, FC Barcelona had already secured the La Liga title, Lewandowski all ready on top of the topscorer list.
