Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals the One Role That Still Stands as Her “Favorite Job” Decades Later.
Jamie Lee Curtis has built a remarkable career with nearly 100 acting credits, from iconic horror classics to acclaimed dramas and comedies. Yet when she looks back, one project — a sitcom from the late 1980s — remains her absolute favorite.
A Surprising Pick for a Hollywood Legend
During NBCUniversal’s Backlot Pass, Curtis, 67, reflected on her return to sitcoms as she prepares for a recurring role in NBC’s upcoming comedy Newlyweds. The conversation led her to revisit the last time she worked on a multi‑camera sitcom — and why that experience left such a lasting mark.
Curtis recalled shooting a half‑hour pilot for ABC early in her career, after years of filming movies outside Los Angeles.
“It was just my favorite job,” she said. “And then they didn’t pick up the pilot and I was so bummed out.”

A Fish Called Wanda Changes Everything
Shortly after the pilot was rejected, Curtis flew to New York to film another movie. Meanwhile, her 1988 comedy A Fish Called Wanda premiered — and became a massive critical and commercial hit.
Suddenly, ABC called back.
They wanted the sitcom after all.
That pilot became Anything but Love, a series starring Curtis and comedian Richard Lewis. The show ran for four seasons from 1989 to 1992, following two Chicago magazine writers navigating work, friendship, and a slow‑burn romantic tension.
“It was my favorite job I’ve ever had,” Curtis emphasized. “Every single year, all I’ve ever said to my agents is, ‘I want to do a sitcom.’ It’s my favorite job.”
Lewis passed away in February 2024 at age 76.

Why Sitcoms Feel Like Home to Curtis
Curtis explained that multi‑camera sitcoms offer a unique rhythm and energy she doesn’t find in film work:

- rehearsal time to refine jokes and timing
- a theatrical feel, despite being filmed
- a collaborative, fast‑paced environment she finds exhilarating
“I love every aspect of it,” she said. “I decided to basically create my own job.”

Newlyweds: A New Chapter Begins
Curtis is now returning to the genre she loves in NBC’s Newlyweds, premiering October 23. She will appear in a recurring guest role alongside Tim Daly and Téa Leoni. The main cast includes Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz‑Silverio and Bill O’Neill.
For Curtis, it’s more than a new project — it’s a long‑awaited homecoming.
