New Twist in Banksy Unmasking: Wedding Certificate Allegedly Revealed.
Fresh claims have reignited the long‑running mystery surrounding the true identity of Banksy, the world‑famous yet still anonymous street artist. Despite decades of speculation, no definitive evidence has ever confirmed who he really is — and even if he were to reveal himself, many fans believe it would simply be another elaborate artistic prank.
Still, the rumours persist. Over the years, celebrities have been accused of accidentally revealing Banksy’s legal name, and several publications claim to have photographed him near his artworks. The latest wave of speculation follows an investigation by Reuters, which Banksy’s lawyer has firmly rejected.

Reuters Points to David Jones, Formerly Robin Gunningham
According to Reuters, the man behind Banksy is David Jones, who allegedly changed his name from Robin Gunningham in 2008. Gunningham has long been considered the prime suspect in the Banksy mystery, with various media outlets linking him to the artist since the mid‑2000s.
Reuters even claims to have uncovered a signed confession from Gunningham dating back to 2000, when he was reportedly arrested in New York for vandalising a billboard. Although the authenticity of this document remains unverified, it has added fuel to the ongoing speculation.

A Las Vegas Wedding Resurfaces
The Daily Mail has now introduced another piece of alleged evidence: a State of Nevada wedding certificate. According to the publication, the certificate shows that Banksy — using the name Robin Gunningham — married political researcher Joy Millward on 2 January 2006 at the well‑known Las Vegas chapel Chapel of the Bells.
The Mail on Sunday claims to have obtained the document and suggests that the couple may have recently celebrated their 20th anniversary at the same venue.

Quiet Life in Somerset
The Daily Mail further reports that the artist now lives with Millward in rural Somerset, where neighbours supposedly know him simply as “David” or “Mr Jones”. He is said to lead a quiet, unassuming life, occasionally spotted walking through the village wearing sunglasses.
Banksy’s Lawyer Responds: “A Violation of Privacy”
Mark Stephens, Banksy’s long‑time lawyer, has strongly dismissed the Reuters investigation. He argues that publishing such claims would violate the artist’s privacy, interfere with his work, and potentially put him in danger.
Stephens emphasised that Banksy has faced “fixated, threatening and extremist behaviour” for years, and that anonymity is essential to his ability to create freely.
According to Stephens, working under a pseudonym “protects freedom of expression by allowing creators to speak truth to power without fear of retaliation, censorship or persecution — particularly when addressing sensitive issues such as politics, religion or social justice.”
The Legend Continues
Whether Banksy is Robin Gunningham, David Jones, or someone else entirely, one thing remains clear: the mystery is part of what makes his art so compelling. As long as he chooses to remain anonymous, speculation will continue — and so will the fascination with the world’s most elusive artist.
