Robert De Niro Says One Trump Move Has ‘Scared’ Him After Deportation Threat.
The long‑running feud between Robert De Niro and Donald Trump has escalated once again, with the acclaimed actor revealing that one particular action from the president has genuinely frightened him.
The two men have traded barbs for decades, but tensions rose sharply earlier this year when Trump, during what became the longest State of the Union address in history, suggested that De Niro — a lifelong New Yorker — should be deported. The remark came after De Niro appeared as a featured guest at The State of the Swamp, a counter‑event held at the same time as the official address.
De Niro has never hidden his disdain for Trump. In a previous interview on MSNBC’s The Best People with Nicolle Wallace, the 82‑year‑old actor said: “He’s an idiot. We gotta get rid of him. He’s gonna ruin the country.”
But in his most recent public appearance, De Niro said that something far more serious than insults or threats has left him “scared.”

“This really scares the hell out of me”
Speaking on March 19 during the No Kings 3 Kick‑Off Call — an event tied to nationwide marches planned for March 28 — De Niro warned that the administration’s approach to voting rights poses a real danger.
“I’ve played plenty of tough, scary guys in the movies — but you know what really scares the hell out of me?” he said. “What the government, this government, our government, is trying to do is take away our right to vote.”
He accused the administration of attempting to undermine the electoral system through a series of measures, including:
- nationalizing elections,
- taking control of state voter rolls,
- forcing citizens to re‑register using original birth certificates and passports,
- deploying what he described as “Trump’s private army” — a reference to the National Guard and ICE — to intimidate voters,
- declaring a “phony emergency” to justify canceling elections,
- ending mail‑in voting,
- and seizing voting machines.
“You see what they’re trying to pull, right?” De Niro asked viewers, warning that the list of alleged tactics “goes on and on.”

Trump fires back
Trump responded swiftly after De Niro’s earlier criticism at the State of the Swamp event, calling the actor “Trump Deranged” on Truth Social and suggesting he should “get on a boat” and leave the United States.
The White House also issued a harsh statement. Spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissed De Niro as “a washed‑up has‑been who hasn’t been relevant in 30 years,” accusing him of “spewing hate speech” and claiming he should seek treatment for “a debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
A feud with no end in sight
With both sides escalating their rhetoric, the clash between De Niro and Trump shows no signs of cooling. As nationwide protests approach and political tensions continue to rise, De Niro’s warnings — and Trump’s responses — are likely to remain part of the broader national conversation.
