December 4th—get ready to (self-)pour!

What’s being called the UK’s largest urban winery finally has an opening date, and it’s just around the corner: December 4th.
We first caught wind of these plans back in July, when Vagabond Wines announced its intention to transform a 6,000-square-foot space into a winemaking facility capable of producing up to 100,000 bottles per year.
But this won’t be some sterile, closed-off production site. The venue will feature self-pour stations offering more than 100 wines on tap, along with spaces for tastings, winemaking workshops, and private events.
Bookings are already available through Vagabond Wines’ website, with the doors swinging open at 4 PM on December 4th. For those seeking a more refined Christmas celebration, this could be the perfect venue.
While Vagabond Wines already runs a number of wine shops and bars across London, this new location marks new territory for the brand, which has traditionally been better known as a retailer and venue operator than a producer.
“This urban winery is unlike anything we’ve done before,” Managing Director Christopbell Giles said back in July when the plans were first unveiled. “It’s a cathedral to wine.”
That said, Vagabond is no newcomer to winemaking. The brand has been producing its own wines for years, first opening its Battersea urban winery and bar in late 2017, and has been in operation since 2010.
The quality of their offerings is well-recognized: Vagabond Wines took home three gold awards at this year’s Independent English Wine Awards (IEWA), with its Solena Batch 003 NV also earning the prestigious title of Best Still Wine across the entire competition.
Other gold medal winners included the Vagabond x Artelium Nature Series Cuvée 2018 and its Night Tripper 2023 orange wine—both worth trying if you plan to visit the Canada Water location during its opening weeks.
The new winery is located at 9 Deal Porters Way, directly across from the lake that gives Canada Water its name.
