Barbra Streisand — legendary performer, EGOT winner, and cultural icon — is adding a new title to her résumé: children’s book author. Her debut picture book, And By the Way…, will be published next spring by Flamingo Books, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers, marking a deeply personal creative milestone.

A Grandmother’s Love at the Heart of the Story
Streisand revealed that the inspiration for the book came directly from her life as “Gamma Barbra” to her three young grandchildren. Reading picture books together — often the same ones on repeat — became a cherished ritual. That intimacy sparked the idea to write a story of her own, one that celebrates the bond between a grandparent and grandchild.
The book follows a sweet duo through a day of play, splashing, exploring, and reflecting on life’s small but meaningful truths. Illustrator Paige Keiser brings Streisand’s words to life with warm, charming artwork designed to capture the magic of childhood discovery.
Why the Title?
Streisand chose And By the Way… because it’s a phrase she uses often — a playful nod to her tendency to add “just one more thing.” It perfectly fits a book that encourages curiosity, expression, and the joy of continuing the conversation.
